With the weather staying hot, APD is seeing a spike in air conditioning theft.
The criminal investigation unit says there have been more and more stealing of window and outdoor units in the past couple months, with a handful happening in the past week.
However, having good lighting around your unit, and storing the serial numbers can help protect your a/c.
"Safeguarding your property is priority number one," emphasizes APD Detective, Chris Adams. "And we want to make sure that the citizens know that is definitely the best deterrent because after these units are taken, it's definitely difficult to locate them after the fact."
APD says it also works closely with pawn shops and scrap yards to help recover any stolen units as well.
