The Abilene Zoo Shows Off One Of Thier Furry Friends

They're small, squeaky, and a favorite when it comes to classroom pets.  I'm talking about guinea pigs the Abilene Zoo explains everything their is to know about these kid friendly pets.

Joy Harsh with the Abilene Zoo says, "These are ones that I do recommend for pet but do your research because if you have children with allergies it may not be the best. They are very easy to take care of and they love attention. They are super sociable."

"They are only biters if they are feeling very uncomfortable. So she will give me a little nibble when she is tired of being handled and held.", explains Harsh.

She adds, "They require a Timothy Hay Bit based diet, that's what we give ours and then fresh veggies. Lettuce and carrots and lots of hay."
