Brownwood Lions Embrace Changes in 2012

For the Brownwood Lions in 2012, change is the name of the game. Not only are they trying to fill spots left by Stehl Ratliff and Kevin Vaccaro, they've also added a brand new Offensive Coordinator, a brand new quarterback, and are going to a brand new district.

"There is a lot of change in the air, and the first practice is kind of showing that." adds Head Coach Bob Shipley.

Starting with the offense, Bryan Clark steps in as the Lions new Offensive Coordinator while Sam Harrell comes aboard as the Quarterback's coach. So, the players are faced with learning a whole new system.

"It's a lot more reads, I mean, a whole different scheme of routes and the way that we run them and how we call them in." Says Senior Cooper Howey.

"Every single play we have is new, they are the same stuff, just different terminology, and learning the different things." Adds Bryce Vickers.

And with a new offense comes new options at the Quarterback position. Head Coach Bob Shipley has three players fighting for the start, something he didn't have last season.

"Clint Taylor is a returning guy that  played a lot for us last year at Quarterback, and he's also a guy that can play some Tight End and some H-Back for us. Matt McCrane is another returning guy who is an All State Kicker, but can all get some reps at receiver, and Chris Keesee is new, he moved in from Ballinger, his dad is on our Coaching Staff."

It seems all these new changes are coming at the right time for the Lions. Brownwood joins a district with teams from the south, including Burnet, Llano, and Liberty Hill.

"I just like that we get to see new people. Sometimes we get tired of seeing the same guys over and over again." adds Cooper

"The trips are shorter, so that a plus. But to us, I don't think is matters who we play, we are just coming out every day and working hard to compete." says Bryce Vickers.
