Noel - a 6-5, 190-lb. small forward - played for the Hornets in 2010-11, primarily as a reserve on ASU's veteran club. Noel averaged 3.6 points per game and shot an impressive 43 percent from beyond the arc. He had a high game of 13 points versus Northern Arizona.
That season, Alabama State won the SWAC tournament and advanced to the NCAA tournament. The Hornets lost to UT-San Antonio, 70-61, in a "First Four" game played at the University of Dayton.
Noel then transferred to Meridian Junior College in Mississippi for the 2011-12. At Meridian, he averaged 14 points and seven rebounds a game. However, it was his intangibles that really impressed MJC head coach Nathan Courtney.
"Kaylim is a high-character person with his best basketball ahead of him," surmised Courtney. "His athleticism, ability to score and desire to get better each day will make him successful at McMurry. He is a good teammate and is a winner."
Noel prepped at Cesar Chavez High School in Phoenix. Playing under Gary Lee, Noel had a stellar senior season with averages of 13 points, six rebounds and four assists per game. For his efforts, Noel was an all-state 5A selection.
The War Hawks open the 2012-13 campaign on Monday, November 12 (7 p.m.) at home versus the University of the Southwest. It will be the program's first game as a NCAA II institution, having moved up from NCAA III after last season.
