Abilene Mosquitoes Test Positive for West Nile Virus

According to the city of Abilene, some mosquitoes trapped on the north side of town have tested positive for West Nile virus.

The bugs were collected August 1and they're the first to test positive in Abilene since 2008.

Environmental health manager Glenn Bailey reminds residents to take precautions by using mosquito repellent and wearing protective clothing during peak hours--from dusk until dawn.

Bailey says the most effective repellents contain deet, picardin..orr oil of lemon eucalyptus.

He also says it is important to eliminate or drain any water that has been standing for more than three or four days.
