After four shootings in the last two
weeks in the area, life goes on as normal as possible for Abilene
residents.
The recent spike in local violent crime is undoubtedly a topic of conversation for many, and leaves some feeling uneasy.
"I'm shocked and saddened. That a city like Abilene, that's a Christian community, would have something so atrocious happen", says Kay Fullerton, Abilene resident.
And while some react with anger and shock, others view the shootings as an unfortunate, but normal part of life. Matthew Lowe is a long-time Abilene resident.
"I don't think there's anything to be afraid of now, that people shouldn't have been worried about before", says Lowe.
"Just being your typical Abilene resident, driving around going about your day-to-day business, it doesn't seem like a place you would worry about stuff", explains Brett Ashby, longtime Abilene resident.
Lowe also says that while people may be upset with the recent events, there's also another underlying issue.
"The initial move will be sort of an ideological move. Sort of knee-jerk reaction of 'someone shot someone else', now we have to defend our guns again", Lowe tells us.
And while Abilene is healing from the recent violence, it's clear that everyone can agree on moving on with business as usual, with hopefully, a safer future.
