Updated: August 9, 2012
Abilene Independent School District did not meet benchmark standards for the fifth year in a row.

School districts and thier schools are annually assessed under Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) standers under the No Child Left Behind act.

The Texas Education Agency (TEA) released results for the year's benchmarks this morning.

AISD  failed to meet the AYP standard and 16 of their campuses missed the benchmarks as well.

"it is very possible to be a very highly rated school system in the state system and be a system that fails to meet the federal standards," says AISD Superintendent Heath Burns. "And Abilene is one of those."

Heath burns says Abilene ISD has improved in almost every indicator.

Wylie ISD and all their campuses did meet requirements.
