Bed Bugs Biting: Abilene Tenant Fed Up, Complex Says They've Done What They Can

Bed bugs popping up again in Abilene.  And for one family, they've not only become a nuisance but are putting a strain on their wallets -- and emotions.

Annie Boyd and her husband have lived in the Camelot apartments for ten years. But that is about to change.

"It's just horrible, that we have to live like this," says Boyd.

Just over 2 weeks ago, Boyd discovered a pesky problem in her home: bed bugs. That's when she says she contacted her property manager.

Boyd adds, "She told me it was a bed bug. And she told me I had to come over here and throw everything away that was material because she says it goes down into the material."

However, the property manager says that simply isn't true. The complex says the owner had disposed of her things before communicating the bed bug problem.

"I just panicked. I started throwing everything away. I worked until 3 in the morning throwing stuff away," says Boyd.

Boyd says the complex offered to exterminate but the cost would come out of her pocket.

Boyd says, "I told her no. I'm not signing nothing. We don't have the money to be on a payment plan."

Camelot apartments says all residents sign a bed bug addendum along with their lease. The property says they are not responsible for the cost of removing the bugs.

"We've lost everything in our home. Our living room too. His medical chair. Just look around -- and we can't take any of this stuff to our new apartment," says Boyd.

The Boyd's will be moved out of Camelot and into another complex by the end of the month. Though there have been other recent incidents in the complex, the complex stresses these are few and separate and this is not an infestation.

Another apartment in that immediate vivcinity has bed bugs also. I think all of those places need to be sprayed for them at the same time!
