Area Highways Widened for Safety

By: BigCountryHomePage.com Staff

Two area highways are being widened for safety.

East Lake Road between Nolan County 351 and Jones County, as well as FM 83 between 277 and Jones County are having road shoulders added in order to make these roads safer for motorists.

An analysis of 189 Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) road projects around the state shows that wider pavements make highways safer and result in fewer crashes.

It is estimated that improving the width of, or adding shoulders will save around 44 lives each year.

An upcoming project to reconstruct and widen US 283 in Callahan County from SH 36 to the Coleman County line will go to contract late next year.
