Man Shot by Officers, Preliminary Autopsy Findings

The medical examiner confirmed that the north Abilene man who was killed when two Abilene police officers shot him last week died from gunshot wounds.

The police department released the preliminary report Tuesday morning after the medical examiner conducted an autopsy on the body of 49-year-old Miguel Martinez.

The official cause of death is listed as "high-velocity gunshot wounds."

One of the bullets went through his left arm into his chest.

Martinez received gunshot wounds on several areas of his body, including  the chest, back and left leg.

Two police officers shot Martinez last Wednesday morning after they rushed to a north Abilene home when his estranged wife reported that Martinez had threatened her with a gun.

The officers found the man in a shed outside.

They report that they fired when the man pointed a loaded revolver at the officers.
