By: Katie Thompson
Updated: August 15, 2012
It was standing room only Wednesday afternoon as Abilene community members dedicated the city's newest elementary school to a woman who dedicated her life to education.

Myra P. Martinez Elementary is built on the sight of the former Franklin Middle School and is the city's first new school in five years.

Named after the longtime AISD teacher, the school boasts a fresh new look and an idea that public education should be the gateway to success for every child.

Congressman Randy Neugabauer was in attendance at the dedication.
