Plane Makes Safe Emergency Landing

Dozens of passengers and crew-members were on an American Eagle plane that landed safely after the pilot declared an in-flight emergency Thursday morning.

According to airport officials, the plane was having pitch control problems--that means the pilot had trouble taking the nose of the plain up or down.

The Eagle flight landed safely with 33 passengers onboard.

The airport fire department was standing by and the Abilene Fire Department rushed out to meet the plane as it rolled out to a safe landing.

Airport personnel say the response was a standard procedure they take when there is an in flight emergency.

American Eagle officials told bigcountryhomepage.com that the aircraft involved was a Brazilian-made Embraer EMB-140, operating as flight 2898.

According to the American Airlines/American Eagle website, the regional jet can carry up to 44 passengers. The EMB-140 is part of a family of jets that carry from 37-50 passengers, and typically fly at speeds of over 500 mph at altitudes of around 37,000 feet.

According to www.FlightAware.com, flight 2898 departed DFW International Airport at 10:11 a.m., and landed safely in Abilene 29 minutes later.

Abilene Regional Airport is home to Eagle Aviation Services, which provides major maintenance services to all American Eagle regional jets.
