Even though unemployment in Texas has risen slightly over the past month, rising to 7.2 percent in August from 7.0 in August, Texas has seen tremendous growth in job development.
The Texas economy added 17,800 seasonally adjusted non-farm jobs in July, marking two years of continuous monthly job growth in Texas. Since last year, the Texas economy has added 222,500 total non-farm jobs.
Employment in Abilene has remained steady, with the number of employed in July totaling 77,800, the same as last July.
The unemployment rate was down this July from last year, but that can be accounted for because there were 500 fewer people looking for jobs this year than a year ago.
