Merkel Looking For 6th Playoff Appearance

The Merkel Badgers have a lot coming back for this season. In fact out of the 16 returning lettermen -- 14 of them are seniors.

"You know whe have some skilled kids who've been playing two or three years on the varisty level.  That seems to be the strength right now," said Head Coach Kieth Mullins.

The Badgers do have to replace running back Frankie Harris. Who ran for over four thosand yards in his career, but the players say it's no longer a one man show.

"We got our recievers coming back. We got Baylor Mulins our quarterback, and a couple running backs that are looking good for us, but I think the passing game is in the air this year," said wide reciever Pat Bohannan.

Mullins  who was district M.V.P. in 2011, combined with his two favorite targets Pat Bohannan and Kelby Jordan has some expecting a lot out of the Badgers offense this season.

And they may need it in their new district.

"We've got four teams that made the playoffs last year, and three other teams that certainly want to get into those playoffs. So It's going to be a very tough district, a very competitive district, and we'll have to be ready to play every friday night," added Mullins.

"You always want to repeat as district champs, but you always want to take that extra step. I think our goal, just like every team, is to get to that state game," says Pat Bohannan.

And if you ask the players, there's one word that sums up what needs to be done to repeat as district champs in 2012...execute.

"I think if we execute we can win district, and take that extra step onto regionals," says Bohannan "just get ready and take it week by week and get ready for every opponent."
