At first, driving 85 miles for a day of shopping might sound a little crazy.
"There's no where near our town that we can go shopping at all, not with this much variety," she explained.
But with today being the last day of the tax free weekend in Texas, Kristi used the opportunity to pinch every penny she could while shopping for school supplies.
"The sales to me were worth it just for that. I mean, not even just the tax free weekend, but for the sales they had," she said.
As a single mother of two, Kristi says the long trip is worth while because of the money that she saves.
"at the mall i think we saved over a hundred dollars just with the taxes with everything we got," Kristi said. "I mean, an extra hundred dollars comes in handy."
"We'd rather pay just a little bit more in the tax money than fight the crowds," said Beverly McCallon.
However, not everyone is willing to fight off the crowds to for their back-to-school shopping.
"It's just a lot of craziness, a lot of parking and a lot of traffic and parking conditions. Just wanting to stay out of the craziness of it all," Beverly said.
But for those who pushed their way through busy parking lots and crowded shopping aisles, it was worth it.
"They can have sales like 20-30 percent off any other weekend. But when you live so much further out of town, it's, we don't do this often. It's not every day we can come pick something up. So we have to wait until we absolutely need something to come this far," Kristi said.
