RICHARDSON, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' men's soccer team was picked third in the American Southwest Conference preseason poll of coaches and sports information directors in the league.

Two-time defending ASC Champions Texas-Tyler was tabbed as the league favorite and Texas-Dallas was picked second. Brian Vasquez of Mississippi College and Chris Torres of Mary Hardin-Baylor were named the preseason offensive and defensive players of the year.

HSU went 11-5-3 last season and 10-2-1 in ASC play and finished second in the regular season and also was the league tournament runner-up.

Mary Hardin-Baylor was picked fourth, Mississippi College fifth and Concordia sixth to round out the projected top six in the league that would qualify for the ASC Championship Tournament.

LeTourneau, Ozarks, East Texas Baptist, Howard Payne, Schreiner, Louisiana College and Texas Lutheran rounded out the poll.

NOTES: New head coaches in the conference are Estevan Arbaiza of Howard Payne and Daniel Oughton (Interim) of Concordia Texas. . . . Former league member McMurry finished 2-16 overall and 1-12 in conference last season, while fellow ex-ASC institution Centenary went 13-3-1 overall but did not have a league record due to going through the NCAA Division III reclassifying process . . . .
