A Brownwood man was killed Saturday afternoon and his passenger was critically injured after a deadly one-vehicle wreck.

It happened on Hwy. 67, a few miles southwest of Comanche, just after 3 p.m.

DPS officials said 52-year-old Jose Zaragoza was heading east on the highway and was in the process of passing another eastbound car, when his back tire blew out.

The vehicle went off the road and flipped, hitting a tree.

Zaragoza was killed and his passenger was taken to the hospital in critical condition with an incapacitating head injury.
