One of the survivors in the deadly FM 600 wreck in April is dead. Gabriel Mendoza died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound at his North Abilene home on Saturday night.

Sunday night, family and friends held a candlelight vigil to remember the teenager.

Easily over one hundred people came to the candlelight vigil at Sears Park in Abilene, in honor of Gabriel Mendoza, or "Buddy" as his family and friends called him.

Just 24 hours after Mendoza's death, those close to him are left heartbroken. We had a chance to speak with his father at the vigil.

"Everybody knew him as 'Buddy', that's what everyone called him. He is also known as the kid who was in the car wreck a couple months ago that killed two angels. He never did get over that. But this was an accident, a terrible accident", Gabriel Mendoza, father, tells us.

Mendoza's family shared memories and his sister presented a poem about her brother, as they played special music. He leaves behind three children.

Again, his father wanted to make it clear that he believes his son's death was accidental. Police are still investigating the death.
