"He is a little more relaxed," says Joy Harsh, education curator with the Abilene Zoo, "but they still have their crazy moments."
But are they the right choice for your next family pet? According to Harsh, it depends on just how much attention you're ready to deliver and whether or not you can handle the smell.
"You know, research, research, research," says Harsh "They do have an odor to them, so you do have to be willing to deal with a little bit of odor."
Harsh says maintaining a healthy diet for your pet, however, could help cut back on some of the odor but it wont necessarily help their sometimes high energy levels.
"They can be wild and crazy," explains Harsh. "They're not one that you can just keep in a cage all the time."
Instead, Harsh recommends taking your pet ferret on walks or allowing them to "romp" around every once in a while. Surprisingly, Harsh says they do enjoy spending time with their owners and can be quite loving.
