AISD Seeks Volunteers for 'Every Student Counts: Abilene ISD Walk for Graduates'

By: AISD Press Release
Updated: August 27, 2012
Abilene ISD is seeking community volunteers to participate in its second "Every Student Counts: Abilene ISD Walk for Graduates" on Saturday, September 15.

"Walk for Graduates" is a community and district outreach partnership where volunteers go door-to-door in an attempt to recover students who have not returned to school.

After the district identifies students who have not shown up for class at the beginning of the school year, trained volunteers visit the homes of these students, provide encouragement and offer valuable resources available to help them return and finish school.

AISD employees will lead a training session for community volunteers prior to accompanying groups throughout the identified neighborhoods. District employees will provide materials and transportation.

Registration and a continental breakfast will kick off the day's events at 8:30 a.m. at One AISD Center, 241 Pine St.

A 30-minute training session will begin at 9 a.m. and the "Walk for Graduates" will be held from 9:30 until noon.

Volunteers may register at here under the link, "Every Student Counts: Abilene ISD Walk for Graduates."

AISD invites anyone who would wishes to participate to volunteer by Monday, Sept. 3.
