Strong winds and high tides are moving in on the gulf coast.

Even though it may be miles away from west Texas, that has not stopped local organizations from preparing for the tropical storm.

"We are poised and ready to respond in any capacity we need to respond to," says Esther Kissell of Global Samaritan Resources.

"The Salvation Army out of Dallas, Texas has called me and let me know we're on standby," says Major James Parrish.

The Salvation Army and Global Samaritan resources are two local organizations taking proactive measures in the event Hurricane Isaac takes a turn for the worse.

"We are always ready. We have a warehouse full of supplies that we can pull together at a moments notice," says Kissell.

"This unit has the ability to feed over 5,000 meals a day," Parrish explains.

The emergency canteen unit is ready to go as far as New Orleans, Louisiana, but making sure the unit is ready is not all the salvation army is doing.

Parrish says, "There may be a possibility of getting some of the evacuees from that area as far west as here."

If that should happen, the Salvation Army is prepared to take care of them.

They can hold up to 136 people in the facility at any given moment.

With the possibility  of  people evacuating to west Texas, the facility is prepared to take care of even more.

"Buy more food, get out the cots, further increase lodging provide for more staff and more hours," says Parrish.
