Texas State Technical College West Texas is rolling out the red carpet on Thursday, Aug. 30, to welcome the arrival of new hands-on tools in the Automotive Technology shop.

The public is welcome to attend and receive hands-on demonstrations of four state-of-the art trainers (two light diesels, one hybrid and one compressed gas).

There will be a short program at 10 a.m. Representative Susan King, TSTC Chancellor Mike Reeser and TSTC West Texas President Gail Lawrence will make remarks. Expected to attend are also several representatives from The Workforce Commission, a representative from the Governor's Office and industry professionals from throughout the state.

These trainers are the only ones of their kind in the state. After the short presentation there will be a reception and those attending will be able to tour the facility and get up close and personal with these new tools TSTC students will be using.

There is a need and great earning potential for versatile automotive technicians in West Texas.

In as little as three semesters, students are able to get the skills they need to enter the workforce at a median starting salary of $38,000.

The TSTC placement office has recently received phone calls from industry professionals looking for graduates. There are skilled labor jobs available in West Texas, and with the right training, they are easily attainable.

Texas State Technical College System consists of four technical schools: TSTC Harlingen, TSTC Marshall, TSTC Waco, and TSTC West Texas, which has campuses in Abilene, Breckenridge, Brownwood and Sweetwater.
