Update: Snyder Man Recovering, Burned in House Fire

By: Snyder Daily News
Updated: August 29, 2012
A Snyder man is recovering from severe burns in a Lubbock hospital after his home exploded early Tuesday morning.

An investigation into the explosion that injured Mark Taylor, 45, is being spearheaded by the state fire marshal's office and an arson report was filed in the case.

However, the arson report is preliminary and does not indicate any criminal activity yet, according to Snyder Police Chief Terry Luecke.

"It was a questionable fire and we are looking at all areas," he said, noting that the police and fire departments are assisting in the investigation. "That's the way the report is filed until we have a final determination. We don't know how it started and there are a lot of unanswered questions."

Taylor, who was home alone at the time, was airlifted to University Medical Center in Lubbock after the explosion ignited a massive fire that destroyed the home at 4003 Irving Ave.

A break-in of the home was reported over the weekend.

The state fire marshal's office is called to investigate the origin of any fire that results in injury or death.
