City Proposal To Allow Community Gardens

By: BigCountryHomepage.com Staff
Updated: September 7, 2012

Right now, the city does not allow water meters to be used on vacant lots, preventing most community gardens. A proposal by the planning and zoning committee hopes to change that, to allow for the cultivation of such gardens. An Abilene church has already started planning a community garden on a vacant lot owned by the church. They say their goal is to grow produce and engage the community.
The proposal will go before Abilene City Council at the next meeting.
