The Cooper Cougars seem to have a flair for the dramatic.

In Week 0, Todd Moebes' team scored with 35 seconds to go. Last week, they waited for a field goal on the final play to beat Cedar Park, 17-14.

That makes 2 straight victories for the Cougars, but those games were just the appetizer for this week. It time for district play. The marathon 8-game District 2-5A schedule starts on Friday against Midland Lee, and the coach is ready to go.

Coach Moebes said, "It is what it is. That was deemed by the UIL back in February. It's another football game with a little more implications, obviously. This is district. Now everybody's playing for the opportunity to play an 11th game, and they are competing for that."

He added, "We've got a tough test this week against Midland Lee. I hope our 2 non-district games put us in some situations that will help prepare us for the stuff we are going to see against all of our tough district opponents especially a tough Midland Lee team and hopefully we are going to be able to go out and get better this Friday."

The Cougars will be at home on Friday night for the start of District 2-5A play on Friday. They host Midland Lee at Shotwell Stadium. Cooper hasn't lost to the Rebels since 2007.
