The Abilene High Eagles enter the 2012 district schedule with a 2-0 record. David Robinett talks to head coach Steve Warren about his teams victory over Duncanville and the start of district play.

David Robinett said, "Coach Warren, another good win for your guys. You are 2-0 heading into district play. Are you happy with the way your guys played last Friday night against Duncanville?"

Steve Warren said, "Well, we are. We got better from Week 1.  We eliminated some penalties. We sustained some long drives, and once again, the defense played outstanding against a very talented football team. We excited to get that win against a good football team."

David says, "Offensively, you guys don't put up a pile of points every week, but it seems like you guys are always in control of the pace of play and the way that the game is going to be played. Is that 1 of the goal heading into the game for your offense?"

Coach Warren answers, "We've got a cetain pace that we like to play at. I guess these no huddle, fast paced offenses are all the rage these days, but that's not what we do. We control the tempo the way we like to control the tempo. That doesn't mean we aren't going to score 60 or 70 points, but we aren't going to run a whole bunch of plays just to run plays. We like to execute what we run, and if that means taking a little more time to get it right, that's what we do."

David says, "District play starts now. This is a little unusual. Usually you've got the 5 non-district games and then it's a sprint to the finish. This is less of sprint because you've got 8 district ballgames."

Coach Warren said, "There's no doubt, David, it's going to be a long haul. We've got 7 district games before we even get an open date, so that'll be unusual in and of itself. We just have to do a good job, I know it's an old cliche, but  we got to take them a week at a time. You know, not look forward 2 or 3 weeks down the line to this big game or that game, or somebody that we're used to playing in this new district. We just have to do a good job this week against Tascosa and them move on from there.">>

It is time for district play to begin in the reconfigured Little Southwest Conference. The Eagles make one of the longest trips in the state for a district game up to Amarillo to take on Tascosa. That game starts at 7:30..
