Come October, Abilene will be home to it's very first Micro Winery and owner Kimberly Scalf says the business is running at full speed to prepare for the opening.

"We are scrambling!" Scalf says. "We are getting ready, bottling some wine, labeling it, getting it ready."

Part of the preparation process is actually making the wine. The micro winery will feature a limited selection of several different varieties, including a Cabernet, Shiraz, Chardonnay, and a White Zinfandel.

Each different wine can take up to six months to create, peaking somewhere between 18 months to 2 years.

"Some of our wines are going to be younger," Scalf explains. "But they're still going to taste great and be ready for the public to drink."

Meanwhile, wine lovers in the Big Country are gearing up for the possibilities a business like the Winery at Willow Creek will bring to the Key City.

"We'll have tastings. We'll have glasses for people to drink on site. They can buy a bottle and take it home but we really encourage them to come out  and do the tasting." Scalf explains, listing just a few of the many options for winos.

The outdoor patio and lake side property also offers customers a perfect venue for outdoor meetings and other gatherings.  The Winery will also serve as an occasional venue for live music.

The Winery at Willow Creek plans to open it's doors Wednesday, October 3rd.  They are open Wednesday through Saturday.
