Too much of anything can be a bad thing, despite the much needed rain to quench last Summer's record drought.

With steady rain falling for most of the day across the Big Country ponding water around your home is a likely occurrence. But what does that mean for your foundation? The pros at Abilene Foundation Repair explained some of the dangerous standing water could have around your home.

"You don't want too much moisture around the house and you don't want too little of an amount of moisture around the house," explains Jeremy Cloud, CEO of Abilene Foundation Repair.

It turns out, too much moisture can cause a strain on your foundation.  While the dry soil will soak up most moisture that falls, if it is overwhelmed your yard could start to resemble a lake.

"Home owners need to go out and check their homes tomorrow," Cloud recommends. "If they have areas that have moisture pooling around the house, that is in direct contact with the slab... they might need to look at maybe doing some drainage."

That's because if left standing pooling water could cause your foundation to actually sink into the ground.

What are the signs to look for? Cloud says cracks bordering windows and doors, along with board separations should alert homeowners to any potential problems.

Cloud also recommends checking and cleaning out gutters surrounding your home before a large rain event to help water flow away from your home.
