New Suspect Charged in Child Shooting Case

By: APD Press Release
Updated: September 17, 2012
This APD has released an update in reference to the August 6 shooting of 12-year-old Zackary McDaniel (also reported as Zachary Fernandez) on North 9th Street.

The original convicted shooter has been cleared of charges of Injury to a Child, but police have arrested another.

The Abilene Police Department is still actively investigating this shooting.

Christopher Mack was initially arrested and charged with Injury to a Child in reference to this case.

New evidence and information confirms Christopher Mack's involvement with this case and identifies that the most appropriate charge is Tampering with Evidence.

Keegan Clark,17, has been charged with Injury to a Child.

He is currently in Taylor County Jail on a $100,000 bond on this charge as well as other charges unrelated to this case.

The Abilene Police Department expects more arrests to be made related to this shooting.  However, we cannot release the names of those individuals until the appropriate charges have been filed.

The Abilene Police Department continues to work for the best resolution for Zackary McDaniel and his family.

Comments

I wonder why the mother of the child shot that they said was driving the car has not been arrested. If not for her, the child would not have been there. Her and any other adults in the car with these children should be charged with the same charges as the shooter. They are just as responsible.
