Reminder: Flu Clinic Monday, September 24

The Abilene-Taylor County Public Health District will hold a clinic to provide flu vaccinations on Monday, Sept. 24 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at 850 North 6 St.
Regular and high dose vaccines will be available.
The high dose vaccine is available for individuals 65 and over and is designed to induce a stronger immune reaction in individuals who may have a weaker response to the regular vaccine.
All of the vaccines contain the same three flu viruses which provide protection for the most commonly circulating flu viruses, including the novel 2009 H1N1 flu virus.
Cost for the vaccine will be $15. Children who meet Texas Department of State Health Services criteria may be charged $8.
Parents will need to know the limits and coverage of their health insurance to determine eligibility for the state provided vaccine. Medicare, Medicaid and CHIP eligibility will be accepted for payment.
Pneumonia vaccinations will also be available at the clinic.
These vaccinations will cost $60 or Medicare will be accepted. An individual receiving the flu and pneumonia vaccines at the same time will be charged $70.
Pneumonia vaccinations are recommended for individuals 65 and older, and individuals with respiratory or other medical conditions which may make them more susceptible to pneumonia. Medical staff will be available to evaluate the need for a pneumonia vaccination.
The Health District plans to hold other flu and pneumonia vaccination clinics in the future and will announce those dates at a later time.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that everyone receive a flu vaccination each year to prevent the flu and potential complications.
