Michael Martin Murphey took the stage Saturday night with the Hardin-Simmons orchestra.
The singer-songwriter performed some of his best known hits such as "Wildfire" and "Carolina in the Pines."
The event was organized as a benefit for the university's orchestra, and a guitar donated and autographed by Murphey sold for $1,500 dollars.
Before the show, Murphey shared how he started out writing songs for others to perform, but then decided he wanted to sing the songs himself.
"There were a number of songs that I couldn't quite get somebody else to do, so I ended up getting a record contract and did songs like 'Geronimo's Cadillac' and 'Wildfire' myself, because people were not as interested in those songs. But, it turned out the good Lord was saving them for me! So I could have my own hits with songs that I really believed in!"
Murphey has sold millions of records in his long career.
He will be back in the Big Country in just a few months for the Cowboy Christmas Ball in Anson.
