Reminder: Abilene Fall Clean Begins

By: City of Abilene Press Release
Updated: October 11, 2012
Abilene's annual "Fall Clean" event will be held Oct. 11 through 13 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily at the City of Abilene Environmental Recycling Center located at 2209 Oak St.

Residents may bring the following: furniture, wood, clothing, yard waste, scrap metal and home chemicals to the event.

Home chemicals should be boxed or bagged for easy removal for hazardous waste collection. Boats, concrete blocks, rocks, dirt and material from major remodeling or demolition will not be accepted.

Usable building materials (good doors, fixtures, windows, etc.) intended for donation to the Habitat for Humanity ReStore will be accepted.

"We encourage Abilene residents to use Fall Clean to help tidy up yards and garages and beautify our city," said City of Abilene Recycling Manager Bob Ervin.

Due to safety concerns, Oak Street will turn into a one way street with vehicles entering from South 25th Street on Saturday, Oct. 13.

At this year's Fall Clean, citizens may bring up to eight passenger tires without rims, free of charge. However, truck tires without rims are $6 per tire and with rims $8 per tire. Ag tires will be accepted without rims only for a $35 per tire service fee. No commercial or business tires will be accepted.

Fall Clean is for Abilene residents only and proof of residency (current utility bill or driver's license) may be required.

For more information about the City's Environmental Recycling Center or the Fall Clean event, call 325-672-2209.
