The Cooper Cougars didn't play a perfect game on Thursday night, but they still rolled over Lubbock Coronado for their 1st district win of the season, 55-20.

The Cougars started the game by allowing Coronado to march down the field for a touchdown, but that was the last time the Mustangs led in this one. Lorenzo Joe took Cooper's 1st offensive play 75 yards for a touchdown to give Cooper a 7 to 6 lead, and they were off to the races.

1-play touchdown drives was a theme for head coach Todd Moebes' team. The Cougars scored touchdowns on 4 1-play drives, and Fred Lawrence returned the 2nd half kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown. The offense had 3 touchdowns called back on penalties. The Cougars offense rolled up 532 yards on offense.

Defensively, Cooper had a tough time stopping the Mustangs running game. Coronado gained over 300 yards, but that same Cooper defense forced 7 turnovers and blocked a punt.

Cooper wins to improve to 1-1 in District 2-5A, and 3-1 overall. The Cougars host Odessa High on September 28th.
