Stamford's Hutchinson And Clyde's Lesley Honored

CLASS 2-A: Clint Lesley, Sr., Quarterback, Clyde:
If the virtue of patience ever required a case in point, Clyde senior quarterback Clint Lesley provides it. The 6-0, 155-pound signal-caller lost a heated battle for the starting job in pre-season training. But when his predecessor went down with a practice ankle injury in Week 2, the then 0-2 Bulldogs turned to Lesley, who has delivered big time. He has two straight wins under his belt including last week's 50-14 pasting of Lamesa. Clint hit on 22 of 38 (eight more were dropped, says Coach Rocky Smart) for a walloping 446 yards and five TDs. Nine of the receptions went to WR Jon Seabourn who was not responsible for any of the drops.
Lesley, a guard on the Bulldogs' basketball team and the leftfielder for the baseball team, owns a 3.8 GPA, which puts him in the top 15% of his class. He's involved in considerable charity work, the most recent of which was a walk benefitting Alzheimer's Disease research just last week.
"Clint is meeting every challenge we give him," says Coach Smart, now in his first year back at his alma mater. "He is rapidly learning our new offense, with a great sense of anticipation. He's so smart that he's able to dissect the defense. And he's so accurate that we're not afraid to have him sling the ball-on any down! We're playing to his strength and that's really working out."
CLASS 1-A: Hagen Hutchinson, Sr., Quarterback/Safety, Stamford:
When the season opened, the big question around Stamford revolved around the health of QB/S Hagen Hutchinson. Would he regain the form that made him a Built Ford Tough Player of the Week in 2011 following off-season labrum surgery? Question answered. Though his shoulder strength is only around 90%, according to Coach (and Hagen's dad) Wayne Hutchinson, the old zip was back last weekend against Colorado City. In leading the Bulldogs, the 2011 state finalists, to a 34-14 win, Hagen hit on 27 of 37 passes for 351 yards and four TDs (14, 12, 28, and 44 yards). And running Stamford's spread offense, he also ran 12 times for 113 yards and a five-yard score. Just for good measure, he added five tackles on defense.
The 6-2, 183-pound Hutchinson is one of those increasingly rare five-sport athletes. He was last year's district MVP in football and basketball, a six-handicap golfer, ran a leg on Stamford's state title 800-meter relay team, and plays baseball. He also owns a perfect 4.0 GPA, is a member of the National Honor Society, and participates in the PALS mentoring program for elementary school students.

"I'm obviously very proud of my son," says Coach Hutchinson. "He's extremely respectful, but the moment he puts that helmet on, he becomes a fierce competitor. He's a student of the game and pays close attention to detail. He won't lead by words but by example."
