Around 4:30 Thursday afternoon the Abilene Police Department received a report of an armed robbery happening at the bank and immediately showed up on the scene.
"The suspect is described as a Hispanic male in his twenties. Somewhere around 5'6" to 5'8" wearing blue jeans and a blue shirt or blue jacket is about all we know right now," Sgt. Lynn Beard of Abilene Police Department describes.
After the call was made, police began canvasing the nearby area and searching for possible suspects.
"We have multiple witnesses that we're interviewing. Several detectives are out gathering some intelligence on this now," Beard continues.
Residents in nearby complexes gathered outside and watched police go up and down their neighborhoods looking for the suspect.
One gentleman was stopped and searched on Meander Street just a block south of the bank, questioned, and eventually released.
Another person was arrested and had their bicycle confiscated at a south Abilene 7-Eleven.
Beard adds, "I can't reveal any information about the quantity of money that was stolen or any leads on suspects. Right now we're still pretty early into this."
Police say they do have exterior and interior surveillance footage that they are in the process of reviewing.
Fifteen people were inside at the time of the robbery, but no one was injured.
