APD: Boyfriend Attacks Girlfriend over Alcohol, Assaults Police

Thursday afternoon at about 4:30, Officer John Clark responded to a robbery that had just occurred at a bank in the 1800 block of South First Street. APD Dispatch was contacted by a bank employee and advised that an armed Hispanic male suspect had come into the bank demanding money and then fled. The suspect's description was provided to APD and relayed to Patrol Division officers responding to the scene. The suspect was described as wearing a white mask, a blue jacket and baggie blue pants. The suspect was further described as a short male in his 20's or 30's wearing a light blue T-shirt and faded blue jeans. Immediate attempts to locate the suspect were unsuccessful. A cadre of investigators with the Criminal Investigation Division have been working through the night with the goal of solving this crime. This is an on-going investigation and further information may be provided at a later time.

Thursday night at about 11:40, Officer Marc Valentine responded to a disturbance call at a residence in the 1200 block of Matador Street. APD Dispatch had received a call from a female victim alleging she had been assaulted by her boyfriend and that she was bleeding. The victim would go on to tell APD that her boyfriend was no longer at the residence. The boyfriend's description was provided to responding officers. Officers learned that the boyfriend had been gone for over 20 minutes. Officers responded back to the residence after APD Dispatch had been recontacted and advised that the boyfriend was across the street from the residence holding something in his hand and coming towards the house. Officer Garcia responded and contacted the boyfriend in the 3000 block of Bickley Street. The male subject was holding a fireplace shovel in his hand and began walking towards Officer Garcia in an aggressive manner. Officer Garcia was able to dissuade the subject with verbal commands and the subject was placed into custody. Officer Garcia observed that the subject was intoxicated and the subject became irate while in custody. During the arrest, the male subject struck Officer Garcia in the cheek with his elbow. The preliminary investigation revealed that the male subject had allegedly punched his girlfriend in the head several times after becoming angry with her for not giving him money for more alcohol. There were two involved parties at the time of the incident that were present during the altercation. The female victim was not transported to a hospital. The male subject was treated for a wound he received during the altercation at the incident location. He was arrested for misdemeanor resisting arrest and public intoxication. The assault family violence investigation continues.

Friday morning at about 1:30 a.m., Officer Sterling Riddle contacted a motorist in the 1100 block of Yeomans Street after observing the driver run a stop light and then begin driving on the wrong side of the road. Officer Riddle contacted the female driver and smelled the odor of alcohol coming from her person. He also observed indicators of intoxication from the driver. The driver conducted standard field sobriety tests which she failed. The driver was arrested for misdemeanor driving while intoxicated and taken to the Taylor County Jail where she refused to provide a specimen.
