APD Releases Photos of Bank Robbery, Asking Public's Help

The Abilene Police Department has released photos of the armed robbery that took place at the First Bank Texas (formerly known as First National Bank of Baird) on Thursday, and is asking the public's help in identifying the suspect.

I connection with the photos, APD has released the following report:

On 9-27-12 at 4:30 p.m., the Abilene Police Department responded to an aggravated robbery call at a local bank in the 1800 block of South First Street. The suspect entered the establishment, displayed a handgun, and demanded money.

There were several customers inside the bank at the time of the robbery. Fortunately, neither citizens nor bank employees were injured. The suspect fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male in his 20's, approximately 5'7" to 6'0" with a medium build. He wore what appeared to be a blue coat or zip-up sweatshirt hoodie with blue jeans rolled up at the cuffs, and with a white rag covering his face.

Prior to the aggravated robbery on South First Street, at approximately 3:15 p.m., a person with a similar clothing description attempted to enter another bank in the 3000 block of North 12 Street.

The person was unable to gain access to the bank due to locked doors and was last seen running southwest towards Woodlawn Drive.

The Abilene Police Department and the FBI are seeking the public's help in identifying the suspect. Attached are six photos. Photos "Bank 1 - 4" are of the actual robbery in progress.

Photos "Bank 5 & 6" are of a person who entered the bank approximately thirty minutes prior to the offense being committed.

APD and FBI would like to identify and speak to this gentleman. He is NOT a suspect in this offense, but he is a person we believe could possibly have information related to this crime.

This is an ongoing investigation. APD and the FBI will not be able to release any further information at this time.
