Rising waters in the Colorado River and Elm Creek in Runnels County sent people running from their homes Saturday afternoon after they were forced to evacuate.

The river exceeded 26 feet, which is about nine feet over flood stage, but the evacuation order was soon lifted.

Officials with the USGA were measuring the river and said it was moving at about 6 feet per second.
