The U.S. Geological Survey crew was in Ballinger taking measurements of the Colorado River as it was rising Saturday.

USGS officials said that it would crest at 28 feet.

According to data on their website Sunday, the river reached 29.76 feet on Saturday -- nearly exceeding the record set back in 1936.

Sunday, the river dropped to around 15 feet, three feet under flood stage.

The river peaked after dark Saturday and rose from four feet Friday afternoon to that level.

To put it in perspective -- that's almost 25 feet in about 24 hours.

At it's peak, the river was moving about 6 feet/second.

A short evacuation order for residents in parts of Ballinger was lifted Saturday evening.
