Arrest over Warrant Leads to Suspect in Home Burglary

Friday afternoon at about 4:25, Officer James Crawford responded to a vehicle crash in the 4400 block of Buffalo Gap Road. APD Dispatch was contacted by a couple of concerned citizens that reported the crash occurred between two vehicles and that no injuries were apparent. Officer Crawford's investigation revealed that an eastbound 2007 blue Mazda CX7, occupied by a male driver, collided with a southbound 2006 red Ford Fusion being driven by the sole occupant, a female driver. The Mazda exited a private driveway and attempted to make a left turn as it was crossing the roadway, but collided with the right rear of the southbound Ford. Damage to both vehicles was minor and no injuries were reported. There were no other occupants involved in this crash. The driver of the Mazda was cited for failing to yield right of way turning left.

Saturday morning at about 10:30, Officer Katie Snell contacted a male suspect that she knew had an outstanding municipal warrant. The suspect was driving a vehicle at the time of the contact. The warrant was confirmed and the suspect was arrested in the 1900 block of Peach Street. A follow-up investigation concerning a residential burglary was conducted subsequent to the arrest. The suspect was taken to the law enforcement center for questioning. APD records show that a residential burglary occurred on or about September 15, 2012. During that burglary, several property items were stolen from the residence. Officer Thomas Bryant conducted the follow-up investigation. His investigation revealed that the male suspect committed the burglary. The victim of this burglary placed a value of stolen property at approximately $3,000. This investigation continues and will be forwarded to the Taylor County District Attorney's office for consideration of charges. The male suspect was arrested for his warrant and for second-degree felony burglary of habitation.

Sunday night at about 10:40, Officer Brandon Scott observed a Honda Civic, traveling at a high rate of speed, run a stop sign. Officer Scott began following the motorist and attempted to stop the vehicle. The vehicle came to a stop in the 2300 block of North Danville Drive, but not before running several stop signs. Officer Scott contacted a female driver and smelled the odor of alcohol coming from her person. The driver also displayed indicators of intoxication. The driver conducted standard field sobriety tests which she failed. The driver was taken to the county jail where she provided a specimen of her breath. Breath samples taken revealed the driver's BAC to be 0.205 and 0.215. The driver was arrested for an enhanced charge of Class A misdemeanor DWI based on the BAC being at or above the level of 0.15.
