Flu Season Begins

By: Kristin Anderson
Updated: October 1, 2012
October 1 marks the beginning of the flu season, and doctors are giving tips on how to stay healthy this year.

It's never too late to get the vaccine, especially since flu season runs until May..

Flu symptoms are similar to that of a cold, with higher fevers, sore throat and slightly more achiness in the body.

The flu can be spread through contact and through airborn particals up to six feet

People are encouraged to always wash their hands and avoid touching their faces to avoid catching the flu, and doctors say to be aware of your surroundings, as you can spread the virus even before and after being sick.

Doctors also advise families with a child under six months to make sure they don't give the flu to babies since children under six month cannot get the vaccine.
