APD: Man Arrested for Throwing Tools at 12-Year-Old

Monday night at about 7:20, Officer Jessica Watkins responded to a disturbance call at a residence in the 1800 block of N. Mockingbird Lane. APD Dispatch had been notified by a concerned citizen that a male subject had thrown some tools at a 12-year-old child and provided the description of the subject. Officer Watkins arrived at the residence where she contacted involved parties. Officer Watkins investigation revealed that a male subject was at the residence getting his bicycle fixed when he got into an argument with a 12-year-old female and became angry. The subject allegedly picked up some miscellaneous tools and threw them at the child. A tool struck the child's arm, causing her pain. There was an injury to the victim consistent with the alleged subject actions. A witness was also contacted during this incident. The male subject was arrested for felony injury to a child.
Monday night at about 9:30, Officer Clinton Coapland attempted to contact a motorist for a traffic violation. During the attempt to stop the motorist, and while using his emergency lights, the driver continued driving to elude Officer Coapland. Officer Coapland terminated his emergency lights and did not give chase, but continued to assess the situation as the driver left a trail of dust and headed into a residential area. However, shortly thereafter, Officer Coapland located the vehicle after it had collided with a parked vehicle in the 400 block of Merchant Street. Officer Coapland then observed the female driver exit the vehicle and she began running away from the vehicle in a northerly direction. Officer Coapland gave chase on-foot and began giving the suspect verbal commands to stop on numerous occasions. Officer Coapland caught and arrested the female suspect in the 1700 block of North 5 Street. The suspect was arrested for evading arrest.
Tuesday morning at about 3:45 a.m., Officer Cody Brown contacted a motorist in the 1200 block of East Hwy 80 because the vehicle being driven matched the description of a suspect vehicle involved in a theft that had just occurred minutes prior. Officer Brown contacted a female driver and he smelled the odor of alcohol coming from her person. A records check also confirmed that the driver was driving on a suspended driver's license. A K-9 officer assisted on this traffic stop. During the investigation, the K-9 alerted on the vehicle for the presence of narcotics. A search of the vehicle revealed a small quantity of a white substance located under the driver's seat. That substance tested positive for cocaine. The officer observed that the driver showed indicators of intoxication. The driver conducted standard field sobriety tests which she failed. His investigation also revealed that the driver was the suspect involved in stealing a quart of beer from a store in the 3000 block of Pine Street. That beer container was located during the investigation. The female suspect was arrested for felony possession of a controlled substance (cocaine), misdemeanor DWI, misdemeanor driving while license invalid, and for misdemeanor theft.
