It looked like show and tell at school this morning.

"It's fun to bring her at school," said James Stearns, student at St. John's Episcopal School.

The school was hosting their annual bless the animals service for animals of all shapes and sizes, and even stuffed animals.

"Students are invited to bring their animals, dogs, cats, birds, chickens, hedgehogs to campus in order to receive a blessing," said head of school Rebecca McMillon.

For some, like Dennis Irby, bringing Chickie the chicken for a blessing was simply for good luck.

"She lays a brown egg every day," he explained.

From dogs and kittens, to crabs and even rolly pollies, everyone was excited to get their animals blessed.

"It's fun to watch their face after their dog is blessed and sprinkled with the holy water," McMillon said. "That the children look immediately up to their parents and smile as if they've gotten the blessing themselves."

For some, it was play time with their pets.

"Because I really like to play with her. And i really like to chase her and tag her," James said as he played with his puppy Ruby.

"I like to walk with him," said Deagan Nichols while watching her dog Sugar.

And a chance to tell their favorite stories.

"Because one time I was trying to get screws out of the yard and it was muddy  and she pecked on my head," Dennis said.

The school hopes the long-time tradition will teach their students to be animal lovers while being reminded of their pet's unconditional love.

The school was also collecting dog and cat food for rescue the animals.
