The Cooper Cougars are excited to get back on the field against their rival, Abilene High, and erase the memories of last year's game.

The Cougars enter this year's edition of the Crosstown Showdown at 4-1, and they're coming off perhaps their most impressive win of the season against Odessa High last Friday.

Since then Cooper has shifted their focus to their rivals, the Abilene High Eagles, in anticipation of a game that could go a long ways towards determining the winner of District 2-5A this year.

At the same time Cooper Head Coach Todd Moebes says it doesn't take much to get the excited for this game.

"I don't think it's hard to get going this week. You know, the town and both schools look forward to the game, but the bottom line is, you can't allow everything else to sit their and distract you," said Moebes.

At the same time, Moebes says the atmosphere around the game shouldn't distract his team.

"Regardless of if there's 10,000 people in the stands or there's 1 person you've got to be able to execute on the field. That's what the game is about," said Moebes.

The Cooper Cougars and Abilene High Eagles wills square off at Shotwell Stadium at 7:30 p.m.
