If you have not already started experiencing the symptoms, "fever, cough, runny nose," you soon may.

Last season may have been fairly mild as far as the flu was concerned, but flu seasons differ each year.

"Just because one season is mild doesn't mean that the next flu season will be mild as well," a registered nurse at Hendrick Medical Center.

Nurse Bonnie Stanke advises those with compromised immune systems to be the first to get their vaccinations.

She says, "The young and the elderly, people that live in nursing homes, people that have chronic illnesses."

However, not everyone can get the vaccine.

"The ones that have a severe allergy to eggs, an allergy to the flu shot or anybody with  a history of Guillain-Barre syndrome," she continues.

They say the early bird catches the worm, but when it comes to the flu, the hope is that those who get the vaccine won't to catch it at all.

"It's important to go ahead and get your flu shot early in the season and be proactive in an effort to prevent the flu rather than taking a chance and getting the flu," says Stanke.
