Brownwood Sees Overall Crime Increase Since 2011

Overall crime has risen in the city of Brownwood since this time last year.

Total crimes in Brownwood, year-to-date, in September of 2011 numbered 939, while total crimes have risen to 1154 as of the same time in 2012.

However, violent crimes such as homicide, rape and assault have stayed fairly steady since this time in 2011, with assault making the biggest leap from 344 instances in 2011 to 428 in 2012.

Burglaries and thefts have seen the most significant increase, with larceny increasing from 473 instances in 2011 to 585 instances in 2012.

DWI's are also on the rise, totaling 66 in 2011 and 86 instances in 2012.

However, not everything has seen an increase.

Vehicle accidents have actually decreased since this time last year,  moving from 404 in 2011 to 347 in 2012.
