Local military serving our country are stepping up to further serve our community here in the Big Country.
The Dyess Air Force Base is kicking off their annual "combined federal campaign," their biggest fundraiser of the year.
So far, they are two days into the program and have already raised around $35,000. Servicemen can sign up to have any dollar amount taken out of their paycheck and donated to a charity of their choice.
"The big thing why it's so important is that we, as federal employees, really have it well," says Project Officer and fund raiser coordinator Shannon Geoghagan. "We have a steady job and we don't have to worry about where our next paycheck is coming from. We have it better than a lot of individuals, so for us to give back is really important."
Dyess also tells us they have a goal of a 30 percent participation rate this year, having had a 23 percent participation rate last year and raised over $165,000.
