Recent Rains Reveal Roof Leaks

By: Kristin Anderson
Updated: October 3, 2012
While the rain was good for the Big Country, many homeowners are seeing leaks.

Roofing companies say they have seen an increase in the number of leaks after this weekend's rain.

Though many have newer roofs after last Easter's hail storm, it's still possible for leaks when the city see a lot of rain as quickly as it did this weekend.

And repairmen are seeing a lot of leaks caused by items like footballs and leaves causing some back-up when they are caught in pipes.

"In west texas, we're so accustomed and our roofs are so accustomed to 2 inch rain falls, not 7 to 8 inches in 24 hours," says John Burton of Barr Roofing. "So, a lot of it comes from water backing up."

Barr Roofing also says they are seeing more repairs on older and flatter roofs here in abilene.
