By: Officer George Spindler, APD
Updated: October 4, 2012
Wednesday morning at about 10:20, Officer Jeff Hartmankok responded to a theft call at business in the 1200 block of North 6 Street. The reporting party informed Officer Hartmankok that an unknown suspect grabbed a money bag from inside the store and left the store when no one was looking. The suspect left with a very small quantity of cash and a credit card. A report for misdemeanor theft was taken and no suspect description was indicated on the report. The victim was advised to cancel the credit card account expeditiously to avoid fraudulent charges.

Wednesday afternoon at about 1:55, Officer Jeremy Holmes was working as the Desk Officer. Officer Holmes contacted a reporting party by telephone concerning a report of credit card abuse. He learned that the reporting party was an account holder with a local bank who lost his credit card recently and then learned about some unauthorized charges on the account. Those fraudulent charges were over $100 and were committed at a business in the 3900 block of South 1 Street. A report for felony credit card abuse was taken and this investigation continues.

Wednesday night at about 11:30, Officers Cody Brown and Jordan Brown responded to a vehicle crash at the intersection of North 10 Street and North Treadaway Boulevard. APD Dispatch received the notification of a two vehicle crash by a concerned citizen who informed Dispatch that one of the vehicles had ran a red traffic light. Officers learned that an eastbound red Mercury Grand Marquis driven by a male, age 52, disregarded a flashing red traffic light and collided with a southbound white Chevy Silverado driven by a male, age 21. The Chevy received moderate damage to the passenger side of the vehicle and the right back quarter-panel. The Mercury received major damage to the front end. The driver of the Mercury was contacted by Officer Cody Brown who observed that the driver displayed indicators of intoxication. The driver was very uncooperative and attempted to leave the scene. Officer Brown arrested the 52 year-old driver. The driver of the Chevy did not report any injuries. Further investigation revealed that two bottles of pain medications were located inside the Mercury. A records check revealed that the driver of the Mercury had three previous convictions for DWI. The driver of the Mercury was taken by ambulance to a local hospital where he was treated and medically cleared. A specimen of the driver's blood was retrieved at the hospital. Neither involved vehicle had any other occupants. The driver was arrested for felony DWI and this investigation continues.
