Players Try To Treat Showdown As Any Other Game

Friday night at 10:30 we will know the winner of the 52nd Crosstown Showdown between Abilene High and Cooper.
The Cougars enter the game with a 2 and 1 record in District 2-5A play and a 4 and 1 record overall.
The Eagles are undefeated in district and overall and ranked 9th in the state by Harris.
The players and fans get along most of the year, but this is the week the line is drawn. That said, most of the players say they have to treat it like the other games.
"Abilene High's Ryan Childress said, "We go forward with this game like we do every other game. It's pretty exciting. It's the Crosstown Showdown. You play with kids you've been playing against all of your life. It's pretty exciting."
Cooper's Jamal Session says, "Of course, it's the Crosstown Rivarly. Going into it, you know that there's going to be more hype into it. Everybody's gonna be there. We got to make sure... the main thing is communicating. It's going to be loud out there. The environment is going to be different."
"It's pretty exciting, I guess," said the Eagles' Hunter Holcomb. He added, "Coach was trying not to make a big deal of it, but we just try to go about it business as usual, and they've prepared us well."
Cooper's Lorenzo Joe says, "It's the Crosstown Showdown, but we try to block that out. It's another game against a very good team. All the fans get all the hype. We just take it as another district game. We go out there and have fun."
AHS's Grant Alexander said, "Coming into this, there are 2 great teams going at it. It's always a great game every single year, and so I know the better team will come up on top. I just look forward to it."
"It's just another game," added Cooper's Pablo Hernandez. "We just have to go out and do our best. They are a really good football team, and we are just going to have to go out there and compete."
